Mit dem Entlastungspaket 2027 für den Bundeshaushalt sind Kürzungen der finanziellen Mittel im Bereich Bildung, Forschung und Innovation (BFI-Bereich) in der Höhe von mehr als 460 Millionen Franken pro Jahr vorgesehen. Die vom Bundesrat in der Vernehmlassung vorgeschlagenen Massnahmen werden es den Hochschulen zusätzlich erschweren, die von der Schweizer Wirtschaft benötigten Fachkräfte auszubilden. Auch der geplante Investitionsrückgang bei der Forschungs- und Innovationsförderung wird sich negativ auf die Schweizer Wirtschaft auswirken: ein vom Bund eingesparter Franken bedeutet einen volkswirtschaftlichen Verlust von bis zu fünf Franken. Research on climate policy is growing exponentially. Of the approximately 85,000 individual studies ever published on policy instruments for mitigating global heating, a good quarter are from 2020 or later. A study led by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) in the journal npj Climate Action, using machine learning methods, now shows how this vast knowledge is distributed – by instrument, country, sector and policy level – and identifies research gaps. Lors de sa séance du 29 janvier 2025, le Conseil fédéral a entériné le nouvel objectif de réduction des gaz à effet de serre de la Suisse défini en vertu de l’Accord de Paris (« accord sur le climat »). D’ici 2035, notre pays doit réduire ses émissions de gaz à effet de serre d’au moins 65 % par rapport à leur niveau de 1990, et de 59 % en moyenne entre 2031 et 2035. Parallèlement, le Conseil fédéral rejette l'initiative populaire « Pour une politique énergétique et climatique équitable : investir pour la prospérité, le travail et l’environnement (initiative pour un fonds climat) » sans lui opposer de contre-projet direct ou indirect, au motif que la Suisse n’a pas besoin du fonds climat demandé par l’initiative pour atteindre ses objectifs climatiques. Diese Studie untersucht die Wechselwirkungen zwischen Klimaanpassungsmassnahmen aus zwei Aktionsplänen des Bundes und den Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Insgesamt wurden 90 Maßnahmen aus 14 Bereichen analysiert und auf einer Skala von –3 bis +3 hinsichtlich Synergien und Zielkonflikten bewertet. Die meisten positiven Wechselwirkungen bestehen mit SDG 16 (Institutionen), 9 (Industrie, Innovation, Infrastruktur) und 3 (Gesundheit), während negative Wechselwirkungen vor allem bei SDG 7 (Energie) und 2 (Landwirtschaft) auftreten. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass eine stärkere Berücksichtigung von Vulnerabilität in Klimaanpassungsstrategien sowie verbesserte Methoden zur Analyse politischer Wechselwirkungen erforderlich sind. Weiter 

The Climate Risk Index (CRI), published since 2006, is one of the longest running annual climate impact-related indices. The CRI analyses climate-related extreme weather events’ degree of effect on countries. In doing so, it measures the consequences of realised risks on countries. This backward-looking index ranks countries by their economic and human impacts (fatalities as well as affected, injured, and homeless) with the most affected country ranked highest. More

Scientists and researchers in space and Earth sciences are invited to submit proposals for the ISSI/ISSI-BJ 2025 Joint Call for International Teams. Organized by the International Space Science Institute (ISSI) in Bern and ISSI-Beijing (ISSI-BJ), this initiative supports small, multidisciplinary teams working on data analysis, theoretical research, and computational modeling. Proposals may focus on space science, such as planetary or solar physics, or Earth science using space data.
